Feast India

I had been waiting a long time for this show. When I first saw the previews on TVO, I knew I had to watch it. It was definitely worth the wait because it had everything I thought of from my trips to India and more.

Barry Vera, a chef and also the host, added a lot of friendliness to the show. He was very open to experiencing the culture, people and the food within India which reminded me of my family. We have so many ethnicities in our family and I feel blessed for that because it's given me an eagerness to get familiar with every culture; would be wonderful if the whole world felt the same way. I admired the way Barry accepted and wore the traditional clothes that men wear at Indian weddings. He has this exciting personality that would make anyone fall in love with the show.

The food looked sooooo good! I wanted to grab a ticket to India and make my way into one of the restaurants just for a dosa. Even though Indian food is available here, everyone knows that you can only get the best of it from where it was created. Once I saw the chai being poured into the glass cups (the cups that every place/rest stop in India has) I felt like there was a void inside of me. Every time I've been to India with my cousin, her uncle has taken us to the same restaurant for dinner and chai. It's close to the airport in Delhi and we'd always eat at that restaurant before making our long drive to the village near Hoshiarpur. I specifically remember those glasses. Even though they had cracks in them and they weren't fancy enough to be used for the Queen, it's a simple reminder for me of a beautiful country where no one's in a rush with their life.

Then there was the extravagant colours that people wear on their clothes or paint on their homes. The houses were elaborately covered in bright colours to signify a tribe or just to have the village stand out from others. I must admit that I'd never have the usual homes found in India and it's because there's no roof. But now a days they do have roofs and doors instead of gates. There's also this smell that I'll never forget and it's of smoke from the fire used to cook our delicious breakfast and I have to add that Raani (one of the neighbours in the village) makes the BEST roti ever. The music was also amazing. Not so much the intro music because it sounded a little funny; though the lyrics went along with the purpose of the show. There was just something about that music that reminded me of waking up in India every morning and suddenly realizing I was in a totally different place far away from my busy life.

Since watching this show, Sukhi and I have decided to make another trip to India next summer. This time we'd be exploring a whole lot more of India. Hopefully it all works out because I really want to go so cross your fingers for me! =)

I never got to watch all the episodes. Saw 2 and I loved it! Especially the one where the people deliver food to like over 70, 000 homes. I think it was more? I can't believe they do all of that in one day and don't even get it mixed up!

I think we should go to Sweden, Poland AND India! Best idea ever. =)
